Using analysis by Fortune, based on SEC filings from 2023, Visual Capitalist visualized how much Big Tech companies spend annually to protect their CEOs.
Of the companies analyzed, Meta spent the most on security costs, shelling out $23.4 million to keep Mark Zuckerberg safe in 2023. In its SEC filing, Meta said Zuckerberg was "synonymous with the company," and that negativity around the brand is "often transferred to" him.
Alphabet, whose CEO is Sundar Pichai, spent $6.8 million, while Elon Musk's Tesla incurred $2.4 million in security costs.
According to Fortune, a year of round-the-clock protection with just two bodyguards carries a price tag of at least $1 million.
